Timetric: making sense of statistics

A platform for storing, updating, and embedding time series analysis data. Complete with a (very good) API, OpenID support, nice looking graphs, etc. Really quite cool.

It's decisions like this that make me confident and happy about my choice of PostgreSQL. I can barely wait for hot standby to land, but features are worthless if they're not stable. Maintainers willing to make tough cuts like this one are what makes quality software.

Changeset 10008 - Django - Trac

Behind the simple description — “Add a “Meta.managed” option to models.” — lies a fantastic feature. You can now tell Django that certain models are managed “externally” (in some sense) and prevent generation of SQL for those models. This makes it easy to build models around database views, data maintained by other ORMs, etc. Thanks, Malcolm!

I've scraped the Lawrence Police Department's crime stats and uploaded the results to Timetric. Some interesting stuff here: property and drug/alcohol crime is roughly flat since 1999, but violent crime shows a marked increase. Also, credit card and ATM fraud appears to have shot up over 100% since late 2007.
